IMC provides a unique range of skills covering every aspect of environmental problem solving in relation to land, water and airborne pollution. IMC has the expertise and resources to provide a comprehensive scientific, technical, engineering, management, design and training services for all types of projects, ranging from initial investigations and environmental planning, environmental impact assessments, environmental audits, and management studies through to remediation and rehabilitation of polluted sites.
Czech Republic, 2005 Contracted by Karbon Invest, the major shareholder of the Czech hard coal mining Company OKD, to prepare an environmental due diligence to identify environmental liabilities resulting from post privatisation activities of OKD’s remaining 5 active underground coal mines and 2 coking plants, to estimate the remediation costs for individual liabilities and to audit the environmental management system of OKD and its operations. Prepared environmental audits of all operations including the plant sites, rehabilitation areas, rejects and tailings sites of each mine with regard to compliance to legal regulations.
 - New Sibovc Field, Kosovo
Kosovo, 2004 – 2005 Carried out Environmental Impact Assessments of existing and planned mines for the European Agency for Reconstruction. Services included the review and evaluation of existing reports and documents, evaluation of data on ambient media, site inspections at existing mines and future mining area, description and assessment of alternatives, description and assessments of main environmental impacts, development of environmental monitoring programs, training of local staff and assistance to develop rehabilitation measures for existing contaminated sites.
 - Box Model of Mine Water Flow
France and Germany, 2004 – 2005 Contracted by Charbonnages de France and Deutsche Steinkohle AG to build up an appropriate model to predict the future flow regime in the Lorraine and Southern Saarland coal mine fields. The model had to include the flow regime within the mines as well as within the overlying groundwater complex which is an important aquifer at the French side. The model had to forecast the flow rate from French into German mines after complete mine water rebound, provide development of mine water levels at various parts of the mine fields and specify pumping rates required to prevent potential contamination of the aquifer by mine water, and include mass transport for iron and sulphate dissolved in the mine water, considered as the most important potential contaminants.
Poland, 2004 Reviewed the present operation and plans of the State Coal Mine Closure Company (SRK) to identify possible improvements in the dewatering of closed underground mines of the Silesian coal mine field and reduce dewatering costs. The final report included an optimization plan with selection of dewatering locations and type of pumps, design of pumping arrangements, estimates of capital and operating costs and potential savings. A long-term “Dewatering Master Plan” was recommended to increase overall effectiveness of dewatering measures and to tie into the river basin management plans required under EU Water Framework Directive.
 - Groundwater Management Las Cruces Open Pit
Spain, 2003 – 2004 Assigned by CLC to prepare a feasibility study on the Las Cruces copper project. The services performed included by the Civil Engineering department included an environmental evaluation, review of and restoration plans, update of the EIS, monitoring systems for geotechnical and water issues, surface water management (water shed planning, river diversions, drainage of open pit, waste dumps and tailings, control of surface water quality), groundwater management (design of extraction and re-injection wells, pumping and piping systems, evaluation of groundwater balance, assessment of groundwater quality developments) and tailings management (design of tailings structure, operation and closure plans).
 - Iran Opencast Copper
Iran, 2000 - 2004 Commissioned to carry out a review and compile a Master Plan for NICICO on a 14 Mtpa porphyry copper deposit with a 1:1 strip ratio in northern Iran. This included a review of resources, mine planning and processing to copper concentrate. A particular focus is the preparation of an EIA/EMP for the project which will be the first comprehensive environmental submission to the Department of Environment in Iran.
Hungary, 2003 Conducted a scoping visit to Lyukobanya mine, Hungary with the objective of determining the complexity of a hydro-geological survey required to asses the viability of an alternative approach to mitigating environmental impacts and to assess the potential cost benefits that could be realised as a result or renegotiating an alternative approach to the currently proposed mine closer plans.
Albania, 2003 Commissioned by a private client to assess the stability under static and earthquake conditions of a series of copper-gold sulphide tailings dams in North Albania prior to potential re-commissioning. The study included recommendations to: divert surface run-off; buttress an intermediate embankment and mitigate acid toe drainage.
Macedonia, 2003 Undertook an assignment on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia to assess the engineering and cost implications of re-commissioning an abandoned lead-zinc sulphide tailings dam in East Macedonia. Key issues to be addressed were repairs to the under dam river diversion tunnel and the relocation of the main access road in the valley.
